YALI Alumni Join Forces at the Launch of UNDP’s FUNGUO Programme and CRDB Bank Foundation’s iMbeju Initiative.
Recently, alumni gathered to witness the launch of a groundbreaking collaboration between UNDP’s FUNGUO programme and CRDB Bank Foundation’s iMbeju initiative. This partnership aims to reshape the startup funding landscape in Tanzania, with a strong focus on empowering youth and women-led businesses.
During the event, FUNGUO made an exciting announcement: the launch of its 3rd call for funding applications! Supported by the European Union, FUNGUO has already invested over TZS 3.8 billion in 43 ventures, creating more than 4,000 jobs. This year, TZS 1.4 billion has been allocated to support innovative startups, with 40% reserved for women-led businesses. This joint initiative seeks to attract more funding to help these entrepreneurs scale their impact and grow their businesses.
This is an opportunity for alumni to drive meaningful change in our communities. The panel discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration and co-creation in achieving lasting success. Drawing inspiration from African proverbs, we were reminded of the value of unity: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” (Victoria Odoi-Atsem). A Swahili proverb, “Kidole kimoja hakivunji chawa” (“One finger cannot kill a louse”), further echoed the power of working together toward a common goal.
Now is the time to connect, network, and explore ways to combine our strengths. By working together, we can build impactful businesses and shape the future of Tanzania’s entrepreneurial landscape.
Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s make the most of this incredible opportunity!
